Grandstaff Canyon Trail

There are moments in life when nothing would satisfy more than time away from the daily routine and when you’re a traveler that falls into this category, planning a trip to inspiring Moab, Utah is a decision that’s sure to thrill. Renowned as the gateway to iconic destinations such as Canyonlands and Arches National Park, Moab is well-loved amongst travelers who share a passion for pursuing outdoor adventure. While the dynamic terrain makes Moab a place where one can enjoy everything from mountain biking and rappelling to rock climbing and off-roading via ATV, the myriad of trails that maze through the landscape also makes it an oasis of fun for those that love to hike their way through a getaway. When you’re looking for a route that’s as scenic as it is fun, be sure to add Grandstaff Canyon Trail to your list of must-try trekking paths.

Outdoor Adventure Awaits

Nestled into the heart of a captivating desert canyon, the Grandstaff Canyon Trailhead offers up hiking enthusiasts the chance to take on a 4-mile loop rated no more than moderately difficult. Those looking to enjoy this route will likely want to set aside half a day to commit to the journey. For history buffs looking to connect stories and places in Moab, the trail is named for prospector William Grandstaff who often used the area during the 19th century to graze sheep. Today, hikers that take to the Grandstaff Canyon Trail will enjoy spectacular views of the stream that runs through the canyon and will enjoy encountering the natural bridge known as Morning Glory. Willows and Cottonwoods are common along this trail as well and about 1.5 miles in, hikers will enjoy coming across the sandstone amphitheater and grotto which makes for a great photo opportunity. While hiking in and of itself is fun, many visitors to the Grandstaff Canyon Trail choose to combine their excursion with a picnic to make the most of the scenery.

Planning Your Grandstaff Canyon Trail Hike

The trailhead for Grandstaff Canyon Trail is located off of Utah Scenic Byway 128 a mere 3 miles east of Highway 191 and provides visitors with an easy-to-access parking lot as well. The trail is open year-round, however, if you’re interested in taking a hike during less busy times, summer and winter are recommended as long as the appropriate apparel and accessories are part of your journey!

Great place for a group of friends, family and kids. Easy access to DT Moab, Nice Pool/Hot Tub, everything stocked from coffee to shower supplies. We will definitely be back in this house or one in the community. Owners were great and were very responsive. They were also very clear with directions on using their place. Highly recommend.

We had a great stay in Moab for a group of young adults staying for the weekend. The property is very nice and includes lots of details, the kitchen is very well stocked - they even have multiple sizes of crock pot. It is bigger and more spacious than the photos can even capture. Empty Spaces Vacation Rental is very friendly and responsive and was helpful with any questions we had and I would definitely recommend using them and would use them again! Overall we had a great experience and felt very taken care of and would stay again. Thanks for everything!

This house exceeded our expectations by a landslide. The home itself is gorgeous and very easily accommodated our family of 24. The pictures do not do it justice at all.

Scott and Sarah are excellent hosts, and helped salvage our trip after another business double-booked us on a long weekend. Their flexibility allowed us to enjoy our stay without worry.
