Bucket List Worthy Escapades Around Every Corner
It’s not every day you find yourself in a breathtakingly beautiful spot that can truly accommodate the desires of every sort of adventurer. Whether your group has plans to explore together or break apart, here’s our quick reference guide to suit the whims of everyone in your party:
The Rock Crawlers – Head to Sand Flats Recreation Area for access to trails that many people can only dream off. Whether your vehicle of choice is a 4×4 transporter, an electric dirt bike, or a mountain bike ready for some climbing – rest assured there’s a trail for everyone that you won’t soon forget. To get there from Moab, head east on Millcreek Dr for about half a mile, where it will continue on Sand Flats Rd for less than half a mile.
The Rock Climbers – Treat yourself to a drive-up Potash Road, a 17-mile stretch that’s sure to reward you with sights of ancient petroglyphs, prehistoric dinosaur tracks, river access, and best of all… Wall Street. So named because it’s literally a wall along the street, it’s a destination that no self-respecting rock climber can resist. To get to Potash Road, head three miles north of Moab on US-191 and turn right on Utah Scenic Byway 279. About 4.5 miles into Potash, you’ll find your destination.
The River Rats – With multiple local guides and outfitters ready to get you equipped for the perfect river experience, you can’t go wrong here. Offering packages to fit your needs ranging from calm and whitewater raft tours, speed boat tours, and even a cowboy dinner and light show aboard a tour boat for a unique experience to see the towering red rock walls at night – surely you’ve never seen the Colorado River like this.
The Avid Hikers – Don’t let the high desert sun deter you because there is SO MUCH to explore. Head to astounding national parks, Canyonlands, and Arches for trails that are sure to reward you with breathtaking views and photo opportunities. Another favorite is Dead Horse State Park, offering a unique view of the Colorado River with a colorful history (hence, the name).
The Road-Trippers – 20 miles south of Moab you’ll find the La Sal Mountain Range. To experience the La Sal Mountain Loop, head north on US Highway 191 before turning right on Scenic Byway 128, just before the bridge. Allow yourself about three hours to stop at viewpoints, take a picnic along the banks of the Colorado River, and soak in all the beauty of this magical mountain wonderland before the loop brings you back full circle to your fantastic Moab vacation rental.
